Katie Nelson Finan: My name is Katie Nelson Finan, and I'm a Sales Manager here at Headway.
Ameya Mahajan: My name is Ameya Mahajan, and I'm a Product Manager at Headway.
Alexis Mitchnick: I'm Alexis Mitchnick, and I'm a Software Engineer at Headway.
Katie Nelson Finan: Headway is building a new mental healthcare system. One patient, one provider, and one insurance partner at a time.
Alexis Mitchnick: Our mission is to make mental healthcare more accessible, and the group of people that work here really actually reflect that. So everybody here is incredibly empathetic, creative, and really passionate about what they do.
Interviewer: What motivates you to bring yourself to work every day?
Ameya Mahajan: Everyone has had an experience with the U.S. healthcare system where it's really complicated. There's hundreds of insurance plans, there's lots of complicated terms like deductible and co-pay and co-insurance. And I think it's really fulfilling to be able to simplify all of that complexity down, and that feeling of seeing my work directly affect the mission of making people's lives better is really what motivates me to bring my whole self to work every day.
Katie Nelson Finan: The relationships at Headway have been a standout in my work here. I love the team that I manage. I also feel so lucky to have a leadership team that is deeply invested in me as a person. I have learned more in my 18 months working at Headway than I have in my entire career.
Interviewer: So, what's interesting about the technical challenges at Headway?
Alexis Mitchnick: The kinds of problems that we work on are really because of the mental health industry. So they're super ambiguous, it's all about technical design, which means a lot of collaboration with product, a lot of really interesting design discussions, which is actually my favorite part about being an engineer, which is what makes me really love my work here so much.
Interviewer: Do you have fun at Headway?
Ameya Mahajan: Honestly, that's one of the best parts about working at Headway is that the job is actually fun. I think people bring a really positive attitude toward very difficult problems, whether that be how to credential a provider or receive payments from insurance companies and ledger them correctly. People are very positive here and that’s...I think that’s quite unique. I don’t take that for granted at all. Even walking around the office on a random Thursday, you’ll hear a lot of laughter.
Katie Nelson Finan: My favorite cultural principle is 'Headway Owner': Go where you are needed. It has really unlocked something. There isn't anything that's outside of my scope. There isn't any person telling me to stay in my box, and it motivates me every day to go above and beyond because I do feel that I have an ownership in everything that we do.
Alexis Mitchnick: The ideal candidate is someone who's a self-starter, who likes to work on really interesting but ambiguous and sometimes frustrating problems that go along with working in the mental health space, and who's also, you know, compassionate and creative and can really get down and dirty solving problems.
