As a Cloud Engineer II you will be responsible for implementing and input into how we provision, scale, secure, and monitor our systems and services throughout the entire organization. You will work on our Infrastructure team made up of experienced Cloud Engineers with diverse backgrounds and collaboratively build upon our cutting-edge infrastructure platform. Earnest Engineering strongly believes in allowing team members to take ownership of what they do, and our approach to problem-solving relies heavily upon creativity, communication, and collaboration.

You will also work on:

• Infrastructure Ownership 

  • AWS support, operation, scale, and architecture to ensure high availability of all systems
  • High availability of production systems, and a highly visible and measurable environment
  • Automating and streamlining standard infrastructure operations.
  • Database support with AWS Relational Database Service, Postgres, and Mysql.
  • Support network configuration: AWS Route 53, Security Groups, Load Balancers, Virtual Private Clouds
  • Rotating schedule of after-hours on-call operational support

• Internal Tools Ownership   
  • Support and improvements to automation with Terraform & Ansible 
  • Microservice Deployment Process creation, operation, and upgrades.
  • Monitoring systems implementation and support.
  • Design for best practices of configuration management.

• Task Management  
  • Task prioritization.
  • Task and project level estimation.
  • Use of modern project management software such as JIRA to organize projects and track progress.
  • Requirements gathering and conversion into project management software.
  • Breaking larger tasks down into smaller tasks and identifying the order in which they should be completed.
  • Participate in agile project management techniques like standups and sprint planning.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration 
  
  • Communicate technical ideas to software developers in written and verbal formats.
  • Prioritize cross-functional requests against each other and planned Dev Ops work
  • Communicate the team’s progress on key projects and metrics to engineering management.

Ideal background and expertise:

• 3+ years of experience of related experience working in a production environment
• Strong background in Linux/UNIX (Debian/Ubuntu, AWS Linux)
• Experience with Amazon Web Services, preferably with multiple AWS offerings
• Information Security best practices, particularly in the context of AWS
• Experience with configuration management & automation (Ansible, Cloudformation, Terraform, etc.)
• Monitoring and Metrics gathering (Splunk, Prometheus, CloudWatch, Nagios)
• Familiarity with Linux Containers and Virtualization (Docker, LXC, KVM)
• Experience working with Kubernetes / OpenShift or a different container orchestration system
• Knowledgeable in networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, IPSEC, etc.)
• Strong interest in learning new and emerging technologies
• General experience with Relational Database Management Systems (Access Control, Administration, Tuning, etc.)
