About the Role
Based in Russia, the Lead Russian News Writer is a contracted full-time role rooted in copywriting, editing, and journalism with familiarity working in a content management system (CMS) as well as exposure to an international team and global communication process. Reporting to and collaborating with the Sr. Manager of News & Editorial as well as the INTL Editorial Manager, you will champion our Russian CR News outlet by writing articles and feature stories on the latest news, trends, and events in the anime industry for Russian readers, publishing several articles a day that drive users towards engagement on CR’s news-supporting platforms.
As part of a cross-functional team, you have the opportunity to help organize Crunchyroll.com across all affiliate sites/platforms and deliver impactful communication to an attentive audience. We will lean on you to be detail- and execution-oriented, a student of the evolving anime industry, and a steward of our widespread community of fans.
Location: Russia, Remote
Duties include:
- Localize & generate a minimum of 100 articles per month and not to exceed 200 articles per month (expectation ~150/month) for Crunchyroll News in Russian (unless pre-approved in writing by Ellation). This work comprises both a) localized News & Features articles adapted from English as outlined by management for global Crunchyroll initiatives as well as b) from-scratch News & Features articles generated through research of anime-relevant content as relevant to our fans.
- As a part of above quota, generate minimum 1-2 Russian-specific Crunchyroll Features per month in support of title marketing efforts on an ad hoc basis as decided/approved by management or regional lead. This can include quizzes, deep dives, and longform opinion pieces.
- Assist in localizing copy in Russian and quality assurance checks for company-wide initiatives including onsite programming, social posts, and general creative assets as outlined by management.
- Communicate in company-wide correspondence via email and relevant Slack channels. Attend key stakeholder meetings relevant to Russian News.
- Publish articles according to the strategy set by the INTL Editorial Programming Manager and the Sr. Manager of Editorial & News.
- Work and communicate with regional teams across the globe to help champion Crunchyroll’s news initiatives across all supported languages, including localization of assets.
- Under the guidance of the INTL Editorial Programming Manager, ensure a clear editorial POV that reflects a profound understanding of our audience, providing consistently delightful packaging and positioning of articles to create the best possible experience.
- Key measures of success:
- Drive increased reads, watch-time, engagement, subscription, and content discovery on Crunchyroll.
- Drive increased CTR and view-through across diverse properties and titles.
- Clear and collaborative communication to global/regional teams and partnering stakeholders.
- Readership and associated business outcomes tied to Crunchyroll News & Editorial.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in both Russian and English, able to participate in meetings conducted in either.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred.
- Strong understanding and interest in anime, particularly within the Russian market.
- 1-3 years experience in an editorial, content curation, or digital publishing environment preferred.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop).
- Experience working with global teams across diverse cultures, demands, and time zones.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and facilitate communication in a fast-paced setting with multiple stakeholders.
- Basic understanding of digital content consumption and online communities.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and use of data to inform decisions.
- Excellent presentation, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and requests.
