The Role
As the Controller, you will report to the CFO and spearhead the management and oversight of SimplePractice’s accounting function, including; controllership, financial operations and related systems, treasury operations, accounting policy and internal controls, global income and indirect taxes, management and external financial reporting.
In this role you will be responsible for driving efficiencies and improvements within our processes and systems, providing support on strategic initiatives, and leading our month end financial close processes. This position demands a seasoned leader with deep expertise in accounting practices, familiarity with recurring revenue SaaS businesses, a knack for strategic thinking, experience working with a public or private equity investor audience, problem solving and exceptional communication skills to engage effectively across all organizational levels.
<h4>Responsibilities</h4>
<ul>
<li>Provide strategic leadership of our accounting, business operations (payroll, procurement), treasury, tax and internal control activities that are aligned to the Company’s long term strategic goals</li>
<li>Ensure integrity of accounting and financial reporting, by developing and supporting best-in-class financial systems and processes that drive timely and impactful financial insights; regularly assess the need to thoughtfully scale the systems and financial controls in support of future growth of the organization</li>
<li>Continue to instill a performance culture resulting in efficient, timely and effective processes, meaningful process changes or improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness, as well as meeting the needs of a high growth business</li>
<li>Drive timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial close processes, including consolidation with related parties and all associated activities</li>
<li>Own the debt compliance process, including the creation of consolidated financial reporting as required, and management of the company’s cash and treasuries portfolio</li>
<li>Stay abreast of relevant technical accounting topics ensuring consistent implementation of corporate accounting principles and procedures in full compliance with US GAAP</li>
<li>Work closely with accounting and compliance teams to ensure adherence to internal controls and policies </li>
<li>Ensure compliance with all applicable taxes (especially sales tax) and work with external service providers to complete consolidated income tax filings</li>
<li>Manage annual audit and act as primary liaison to the external auditors and other external service providers</li>
<li>Collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional peers to develop and execute financial strategies aligned with organizational goals</li>
<li>Identify and assess financial risks, implementing strategies to mitigate potential challenges</li>
<li>Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing accounting team</li>
</ul>
<h4>Desired Skills & Experience</h4>
<ul>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification </li>
<li>Extensive experience (12+ years) in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, with a focus on accounting</li>
<li>Prior Big 4 or public accounting experience preferred </li>
<li>Strong technical accounting knowledge of GAAP and other accounting standards </li>
<li>Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing teams, including building global teams to leverage talent in non-US regions (e.g. India, Latin America)</li>
<li>Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills</li>
<li>Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization</li>
<li>Experience with NetSuite and advanced proficiency in financial software and tools </li>
<li>Ability to operate in a fast-paced team environment, manage competing priorities, and adhere to tight deadlines</li>
<li>Experience setting up and supporting international operations </li>
<li>Software, SAAS and Payments experience is highly valued </li>
</ul>

Base Compensation Range
$200,000 - $300,000 annually
Base salary is one component of total compensation. Employees may also be eligible for an annual bonus or commission. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay.
The above represents the expected base compensation range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we’ll consider many factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
