The Team -- Legal
SigFig’s small but mighty Legal Team advises our global company on increasingly complex problems to drive revenue and instill trust in our external partners. We drive strategic change through creative and informed counsel and business partnership. Exceptional judgment and strong business acumen allows SigFig to mitigate risk while facilitating high growth and innovation. This role of Deputy General Counsel, in collaboration with our General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer will expand our dynamic legal team working on innovative legal issues across a growing global company.
The Opportunity -- Deputy General Counsel
As Deputy General Counsel, you will provide end-to-end legal advice and support on a broad range of matters. You will be an integral part of an agile leadership team that knows how to roll up it’s sleeves and make things happen! It is second nature for you to seamlessly collaborate across teams with a high degree of autonomy and show up as a leader across the organization as a member of the Senior Leadership Team of the company. In this position, experience negotiating complex technology transactions is essential and regulatory expertise is preferred. You enjoy wearing multiple hats, are flexible and communicative, and relish in learning new things. This role will report directly to SigFig’s General Counsel and Chief People Officer.
How you will make an impact:
- Advise: you will proactively and expertly lead technology transactions by negotiating and drafting complex commercial, licensing and intellectual property agreements affecting SigFig’s products and services with long-term implications
- Share: you will use your deep legal knowledge around the banking and financial services space and be excited about bringing a strategic mindset to a fast growing company
- Collaborate: you will collaborate closely with the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer on the legal work involved in partnerships and corporate financings and also have the knowledge and experience to scale the company
- Partner: you will bring a commercial and flexible mindset to working with business leaders across the organization in proactively evaluating and managing risk as we scale our business
- Communicate: you have highly developed written and oral communication skills, with special emphasis on excellent drafting and negotiation skills and attention to detail
- Operate: you provide real-world experience in making pragmatic decisions that balance managing risk while ensuring success for our business
- Create: you will bring thoughtful ideas and insights into how the company can work within the law to create an amazing experience for our employees and our customers
Ideal Sigifgian For This Role
- You have 8+ years of legal practice experience, preferably working in financial services and/or the Fintech space.
- You possess a high comfort level with a wide range of legal issues and subject matters
- You are a humble self-starter with exceptional interpersonal skills who thrives on working on a variety of company wide projects and enjoys building relationships across a variety of functions within the company
- You undertake projects and tasks with an attention to detail coupled with a sense of urgency
- You have the ability to strategize against competing priorities and identify the important problems to solve
- You have a do-it-all, nothing is too small mentality
- You have strong critical-thinking skills combined with a propensity toward innovation and risk-taking
- You thrive in serving as a sounding board for others, with low ego
- You exhibit strong analytical problem solving and decision-making skills with sound judgment based on best practices in legal and compliance guidance
- You thrive while working under pressure in a fast-paced, innovative, rapidly changing environment
- You have a JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one US state
