About the Team:
Quizlet is a leading company in consumer learning technology with proven traction and huge growth ahead. We have a freemium business model with two strong and growing revenue streams: subscriptions and advertising. Our freemium model exists to attract the largest possible number of potential customers at the lowest cost while creating student and teacher evangelists to drive virality. Our focus is on generating revenue through low-priced, high-scale consumer subscriptions that students cannot imagine studying without.
We’re looking to bring on a senior leader to our Controllership organization reporting to our VP, Controller to help build the financial systems and processes.
About the Role:
You will lead and build a team to develop, implement, maintain, and manage the company’s global indirect and direct tax compliance. You’ll own and scale US and international tax compliance, as well as sales and VAT tax compliance, and will be the go-to tax person for Quizlet. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, analytical, excited to work in a fast-paced organization, and ready to roll up their sleeves to get the job done.
In this role, you will:
- Ensure US and international tax filing due dates are met and maintained in the company’s tax compliance calendar
- Ensure compliance with all US and foreign tax requirements
- Monitor existing and proposed legislative and regulatory US and global tax law developments, communicate the effects, and develop risk-minimization tax strategies
- Document tax positions taken and review alternative tax positions to determine the most appropriate cost-effective filing position
- Build a deep understanding of the business and its transaction flows to analyze potential tax implications and impacts
- Manage income-tax provision calculations and related financial-statement disclosures
- Facilitate analysis of R&D to qualify for R&D tax credits in different tax jurisdictions
- Manage tax-related accounting and associated general ledger account reconciliations
- Manage and participate in the development of software solutions for tax automation and process improvements
- Build and maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting or related field
- 10+ years of progressive, relevant experience in Tax within a top technology company or a combination of big four and industry experience
- Disciplined, detail-oriented, and good at recognizing patterns in large collections of information
- Able to drive strong output on multiple fronts and prioritize items to meet deadlines
- Strong technical understanding of US and international tax regulations
- Experience in selecting and implementing new systems, defining workflows, and designing processes
- Ability to effectively manage relationships with senior stakeholders
- Superb communication skills and strong executive presence
Compensation, Benefits & Perks:
- Colorado candidates: Base pay for this role starts at $127,000. The actual pay may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience
