Job Title: Lab Analyst III

Reports to: Lab Department Supervisor, Lab Department Manager
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Analyst III is a senior-level analyst responsible for independently performing complex analyses, leading laboratory documentation and quality practices, and mentoring junior staff. This role includes designing and validating investigation tests, improving workflows and methods, and ensuring that laboratory operations meet client expectations and industry standards. The Lab Analyst III plays a key role in maintaining high-quality data, supporting continuous improvement, and driving technical excellence across the lab. Looking for experienced GC analyst to step in and work in an environmental laboratory. In addition to analyst duties candidates are expected to mentor junior staff members in the GC area. Analyst III candidates should be capable of independently developing methods and adhering to the laboratories QA program with minimal supervision. Experience in GC/MSD is a mandatory. Additional experience with GC/FID and GC/ECD is preferred.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepare, analyze, and track sample progress; ensure timely completion and communicate delays appropriately.
- Independently set up and load instruments for analysis, train others in proper setup and operation.
- Independently manage laboratory documentation and oversee documentation practices for others; identify and implement workflow improvements.
- Prepare complex standards and reagents independently; serve as a training resource for junior analysts.
- Lead calibration protocols, develop maintenance schedules, and train staff on instrument care and troubleshooting.
- Ensure accurate flagging and narrative documentation with minimal corrections, guide others in best practices.
- Design, perform, validate, and summarize investigation tests; monitor corrective actions for effectiveness.
- Evaluate results against client requirements and industry standards; recommend and implement method improvements to meet performance targets.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of test codes, SOPs, and the chemistry employed in laboratory methods.
- Collaborate with management on technical projects, method development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and analytical chemistry.
- This role requires sufficient experience with GCMS systems (both VOC and SVOC). Additionally, it is preferrable that candidates have experience with other GC systems (e.g., GC-FIF, GC-ECD, GC-TCD)
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and improve laboratory processes.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to data integrity and quality.
- Proficiency in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and quality systems.
Pay Rate
$28-39/hour DOE
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of laboratory experience, with demonstrated progression in technical and leadership responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to operate laboratory instruments and computer systems.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and environmental samples, using appropriate PPE.
