As a Principal Architect - Data Management at JPMorgan Chase on Global Technology’s Enterprise Architecture team, you will help shape, lead adoption, and operate the firm’s Data Management domain. You will provide specialized expertise to influence the target state architecture and strategy of the domain, and work across teams to educate and build consensus to drive domain strategies. You will lead the Data Management domain’s architecture review boards in evaluating, adjudicating, onboarding, and adopting technologies to be used by development teams to compose their business systems. You will advise, inform, and assist on decisions about the strategy, roadmaps, operationalization, and productization of those technologies that will be scaled and made available firmwide.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and influence portfolio owners and operate architecture review boards on developing and maintaining Data Management tools across a large enterprise, including selection, integration, and retirement; includes stakeholders of varying degrees of technical or business orientation
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on Data Management at JPMC, with special emphasis on delivering technology capabilities and managing sprawl in priority areas such as Database Management Software, Data Governance, Data Analysis and Interpretation, Data Integration
  • Translates highly complex technical issues, trends, and approaches to leadership to drive the firm’s Data Management technology strategy and enable leaders and technology requestors from solution teams to make strategic, well-informed decisions about target state offerings and solution architecture
  • Develop and maintain a strategic roadmap for data management technologies aligned with business objectives
  • Advise on technology selection, retirement, and integration across the portfolio
  • Design scalable, secure, and robust data architectures (data lakes, warehouses, pipelines, etc.)
  • Evaluate emerging data management technologies and recommend adoption or avoidance; may include proof-of-concept initiatives and vendor assessments
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance, and ensure solutions adhere to internal and external compliance requirements
  • Advise on integration patterns of data management components with existing systems and platforms.
  • Monitor internal technology performance and recommend improvements
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and incorporate innovations

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts or 10+ years of equivalent experience
  • Deep knowledge of Data Governance tools that cover Data classification, Policies, Procedures, Controls, Metadata management (e.g., Collibra, Alation, Atlan)
  • Deep knowledge of concepts that include Conceptual and Logical data models, Entity-Relationship, Data normalization/Canonicalization
  • Expertise in both relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB)
  • Deep knowledge of Big Data frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, Flink, Kafka; Deep understanding of data warehouses (e.g., RedShift), data lakes (e.g., Lake Formation/S3), and lake houses (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake); Experience in Data Analytics and Data mining tools 
  • Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid architectures
  • Understanding of data security, privacy, and compliance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
  • Practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  • Ability to evaluate current and emerging technologies to recommend the best technology solutions and approaches to achieve the future state architecture
  • Demonstrated prior experience influencing across functions and teams to deliver modern architecture
  • Experience applying expertise and new methods to determine solutions for complex architecture problems across various technical disciplines

Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise

  • Proven experience advising senior business and technology leaders
  • Track record of managing or influencing technology portfolios and processes
  • TOGAF, AWS/Azure/GCP Architect, CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), or similar
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to inform, influence, and negotiate with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to mentor and guide others
