For the COVID-19 public health crisis, Helix has built one of the nation’s largest COVID diagnostic labs and has been on the leading edge of national viral surveillance efforts tracking B.1.1.7 and other viral strains.
We are searching for a highly motivated and team-oriented Scientist to support a wide variety of molecular biology, biochemical, and extraction techniques to support projects focused on our Exome+ as well as viral infection assays. As a Scientist at Helix, you will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to develop robust, scalable assays, where you will design and execute experiments with the overall goal of providing results that will be used for assay development.
As a Scientist, Research & Development you will:
- Develop and optimize molecular assays and processes for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) for use in a high throughput clinical laboratory.
- Design and execute experiments related to NGS assay
- Provide technical leadership in the transfer of new processes and products from R&D to clinical production.
- Design and execute experiments for process improvement of current assay in clinical production
- Construct and execute controlled experiments to optimize processes to achieve commercial levels of stability, robustness, and performance.
- Use systematic problem-solving methods to troubleshoot complex issues related to assay quality, stability and robustness.
- Help to establish best practices for assay development in compliance with clinical lab quality regulations.
- Document plans, processes and results accordingly.
- Perform analyses of experiments, processes, identify gaps and deficiencies.
- Present clear and concise written and oral communications to colleagues and supervisors, lead and/or participate in technical meetings, and provide recommendations based on technical results.

Required background:
- PhD or foreign degree equivalent in Biological Science or related plus 1 year related experience
- Will accept a Master’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Biological Science or related plus 4 years of experience in lieu of PhD + 2
- Molecular biology background is essential, such as experience in PCR, qPCR, DNA and RNA work
Highly Desirable:
- NGS background including library preparation and sequencing is advantageous
