As Senior Counsel, Product on the Product Legal team, you'll serve as the primary legal partner to product, engineering, and design teams building stablecoins, payments, and crypto infrastructure at Coinbase. This team provides full product life-cycle counseling across some of the most novel areas in fintech and crypto law. You'll shape how Coinbase navigates complex regulatory landscapes while shipping products that bring crypto into the financial mainstream, advising from ideation through launch and collaborating cross-functionally with Privacy, Regulatory, Compliance, and Finance.

What you'll do:

  • Own the legal advisory relationship for stablecoin, payments, and crypto infrastructure product teams, providing day-to-day legal, business, and strategic counsel throughout the product life cycle.
  • Advise product managers and engineers on U.S. and international regulatory requirements, including money transmission laws, the GENIUS Act, NYDFS BitLicense, banking regulations, e-money issuance, securities regulation, and BSA compliance.
  • Drive resolution of novel legal issues by identifying risks, partnering with specialized colleagues across Legal, and engaging outside counsel where needed.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Compliance, Communications, Finance, Tax, Security, and Enterprise Risk Management to deliver cohesive legal guidance that enables product launches.
  • Shape the team's approach to emerging regulatory frameworks, proactively advising product teams on how new laws and guidance affect product design, disclosures, and go-to-market strategy.
  • Build scalable legal processes and playbooks that enable product teams to move quickly while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • J.D. with 7+ years of legal experience and active U.S. state bar membership, including meaningful time counseling product teams on technology product launches at a fintech, crypto/blockchain company, or consumer technology company (in-house experience preferred).
  • Deep familiarity with major U.S. and global payments/financial services regulations (money transmission, NYDFS BitLicense, Reg E, SEC, CFTC, CFPB, FTC Section 5/UDAAP) and the ability to apply them to novel crypto product constructs.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide risk-adjusted legal guidance, balancing regulatory compliance with product velocity in ambiguous or first-of-kind legal environments.
  • Track record of embedding with cross-functional teams and independently driving legal workstreams from problem identification through resolution.
  • Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

$224,995$264,700 USD
