About This Role

Strava is the leading social platform for athletes and the largest sports community in the world, with over 85 million athletes in 195 countries. If you sweat you’re an athlete, and Strava’s mobile apps and website connect millions of active people every day.

Strava’s web platform team is looking for a Web Product Designer to join our product team. The web platform is responsible for developing web features, investing in tools and systems so that engineers, product and marketing can reach the invested web athlete.

In this position, the web product designer will be responsible for helping shape the design and overall strategy of the web platform. We are interested in speaking with you if you’re dedicated to building extraordinary customer experiences, driven, and a creative problem solver who loves to work collaboratively with cross-functional partners. You should thrive in an environment where you get to work on complicated problems that require a keen ability to investigate, organize, and design user experiences that lead athletes to call their Strava subscription “essential”.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will:

  • Create a POV with the team through design research on why athletes use web, how that pairs with mobile, and how to make it better for them.
  • Help build, maintain, add, and extend a web component library while encouraging it’s adoption so people don’t reinvent the wheel.
  • Investigate the information architecture of the web product, how it’s navigated, and how it compliments mobile and suggest opportunities to improve.
  • Help drive our subscription business by porting mobile functionality to web as well as supporting new product initiatives.

You will be successful here by:

  • Having a systematic / holistic approach when it comes to organizing information, components, and synthesizing user feedback in support of an app ecosystem.
  • Being a great storyteller and a strategic presenter who can communicate athletes problems and guide people through decisions that tackle these problems.
  • Cultivating an alignment-driven approach that encourages feedback cycles from various internal sources as well as encourages use and commitment to web UI/UX patterns.
  • Partnering with engineers, product designers, and brand designers to work collaboratively on areas like documenting our component library, and how to use it from a design standpoint.
  • Approaching your work from the standpoint of making it easier for teams to build web-based product offerings.

We’re excited about you because:

  • You have experience treating web platforms like a product, and have worked with product teams to evaluate, research, test, and tackle customer problems.
  • You come with a deep knowledge of best practices for information architecture, navigation, UX, and UI design for the web and rich web application environments.
  • You’ve worked with layout and rendering approaches endemic to the web like responsiveness, progressive enhancement, supporting browsers on various platforms.
  • You are familiar or have experience with web accessibility practices like writing semantic validating HTML, CSS/SASS.
  • You are familiar or have experience with frameworks like React or test frameworks like Jest or Cyprus.
  • You have an interest, exposure, or hands on experience in CMS and/or API-driven products, and/or data collection utilities like Tableau, Google Analytics, etc to make data-informed design/business decisions.

Please provide work samples or a portfolio for review.
