As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will be at the heart of Tally’s engineering process building software systems that empower engineering teams to develop and deliver reliable applications and services.
As Service Owners, we own and are responsible for the core infrastructure primitives that power Tally Engineering. We use Site Reliability Engineering skills to not only fix problems but solve the issues that contribute to them. Tech you might use: Kubernetes, Prometheus, PostgreSQL, Redis, Terraform, CI/CD systems (GitLab), and various AWS services such as EC2, RDS, EMR, EKS, Redshift, etc.
A Day In the Life:
- Design, build and deploy infrastructure primitives for delivering our cloud environment with containers, microservices, orchestration, and monitoring tools.
- Design, develop and maintain robust CI/CD tools, and pipelines.
- Build self-service capabilities to empower other engineering teams to self-provision, troubleshoot, and manage various application environments.
- Automate manual tasks and improve your workflow.
- Improve service reliability and observability.
- Investigate, and solve, the contributing causes to incidents and impacts to Service Level Objectives.
- Participate in daily scrum standups, sprint planning, and other team rituals including retrospectives.
- Teach, coach, and advocate Site Reliability Engineering principles across the Engineering team.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
About You:
- Comfortable developing software, using at least one server-side programming language. (e.g. Scala, Java, Go, Python.)
- You know the cloud, and you’ve got experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or other cloud platforms.
- No stranger to containers and are familiar with container orchestration, the tools and systems used to build, deploy, and manage them. (Kubernetes, ECS, Docker.)
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and its associated toolsets are familiar territory to you. You’ve used Terraform and other IaC tools to build, change, and manage infrastructure.
- Reliability, monitoring and observability are not just words to you. You can translate SLO’s and SLI’s into actionable improvements.
- Automation, using CI/CD systems and tools to automate manual task work is one of your core values.
- You’re a great communicator, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Passionate about learning and constantly challenging yourself for continuous improvement.
