About the Role
The Software Engineering Manager will lead one or more of our Product Development teams and will be responsible for the technical direction and delivery of these teams, as well as the hiring and career growth of team members. In this role, you will work closely with Product, Design, and key business stakeholders on critical roadmap projects while evolving our Engineering architecture. The leader is expected to bring a strong background in architecture and best practices to create strategic direction, and help the teams make informed technical decisions while ensuring we are always delighting our customers.
You will report to the VP of Engineering at Earnest, and you will:
- Leverage your passion for technology to lead teams that build products and services that strive to make higher education accessible and affordable for everyone
- Have the autonomy to define and influence the Annual and Quarterly OKRs for the team
- Leverage your business acumen and customer obsession to gain a mastery of the business context, user behaviors, product goals, and participate in early-stage product definition and planning
- Attract, hire, and retain a team of high performing Product Engineers
Ideal background and expertise:
- 7+ years software development experience
- 2+ years management/supervision experience of software development project teams
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Firm understanding of application architecture best practices at scale, cloud-based microservice architecture and SOLID principles
- Extensive full stack experience with SQL, ORM, GraphQL, relational databases, Node.js, TypeScript, React, AWS, Kubernetes
- Firm understanding of Software Development Life Cycle methodology
- Mobile app development experience (preferred)
- FinTech experience (preferred)
- Experience working and collaborating with diverse remote teams in a dynamic, rapid growth environment
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills to break down and solve complex problems
