We seek innovators who actively use AI to amplify their impact and who thrive in an environment where we leverage intelligent systems to stay ahead of evolving threats. We believe in transparency and value constructive, honest debate—we’re focused on getting to the best ideas, faster. We build high-performing teams that can make an impact quickly and with high quality. To do this, we are building a culture of execution centered on customer obsession, collaboration, ownership, and accountability.

We value high-impact, high-accountability with a sense of urgency where you’re enabled to do your best work and embrace your potential. If you’re driven by purpose, thrive on solving complex challenges, and want to be part of the team that’s helping to secure the AI age, we invite you to bring your talents to Zscaler and help shape the future of cybersecurity.

We are looking for a Sr. Staff Software Development Engineer, Provisioning Platform to join our Zero Trust Exchange department. This is a hybrid position based in San Jose, CA (HQ), reporting to the Sr. Director, Software Development Engineering.

The Sr. Staff Software Development Engineer will help architect and build Zscaler’s next-generation Provisioning Platform, powering SKU provisioning, entitlement management, workflow orchestration, subscription lifecycle management, and self-service experiences across Zscaler products. This is a backend-focused platform role requiring strong Java/Spring Boot expertise, distributed systems experience, API-first design, and the ability to build scalable, reliable systems that support both automation and Agentic AI-assisted user experiences.

What you’ll do (Role Expectations)

  • Lead the design and development of scalable backend services for provisioning, licensing, entitlements, approvals, orchestration workflows, and subscription lifecycle management
  • Build API-first platform services using Java/Spring Boot, REST, gRPC, OpenAPI, OAuth2, JWT, and secure service-to-service communication
  • Architect resilient workflow-driven systems using asynchronous processing, retries, rollback handling, durable state management, Kafka/RabbitMQ, and orchestration technologies such as Temporal or similar platforms
  • Design platform capabilities that enable Agentic AI experiences for guided provisioning, workflow automation, recommendations, troubleshooting, and operational insights
  • Drive platform reliability, observability, auditability, developer productivity, and technical direction through reusable frameworks, SDKs, tooling, automation, and mentoring

Who You Are (Success Profile)

  • You act like an owner. Your passion for the mission fuels your bias for action. You operate with integrity because you genuinely care about the outcome. You adapt to what’s needed, navigating seamlessly between high-level strategy and hands-on execution.
  • You are a problem-solver. You seek out challenges because you are energized by finding solutions, knowing that solving the hard problems delivers the biggest impact.
  • You are driven by innovation. You have a deep curiosity for how things work and are energized by solving complex technical challenges. You believe in the power of technology to accelerate transformation and are always looking for a better, more secure, and scalable way.
  • You are a pragmatic builder. You are obsessed with creating, iterating, and shipping. You aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves and build the first version yourself, balancing the drive for technical excellence with the need to deliver value to users quickly.
  • You think at scale. You connect your day-to-day work to the larger company mission and think globally. You build solutions, processes, and teams that are not just effective today but are built to last and support a high-growth, global organization.

What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale backend, platform, distributed systems, or cloud-native applications
  • Strong backend development experience with Java and Spring Boot, including building production-grade microservices and APIs
  • Experience with distributed systems concepts such as resiliency, idempotency, retries, fault tolerance, transactional workflows, eventual consistency, and durable state management
  • Experience with API-first platform development using REST, gRPC, OpenAPI, OAuth2, JWT, RBAC, audit logging, and secure service-to-service communication
  • Experience with cloud-native and event-driven technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka/RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, Redis, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and production operations

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience building provisioning, licensing, entitlement, commerce, billing, subscription lifecycle, or internal developer platforms at scale
  • Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal, Cadence, Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster, as well as domain-driven design and event-driven architectures
  • Experience with Agentic AI, LLM-based workflows, tool calling, RAG, AI-assisted admin/developer experiences, or strong practical use of AI-assisted development tools; Python/FastAPI, Go, React, Next.js, or Material UI experience is a plus
