Position: UX Designer
Location: Norwich, UK or Remote (Based in the UK)
Employment type: FTE
Department: Engineering
NerdWallet is seeking a talented UX Designer to join our highly collaborative team. Too often, financial language is obscure and promotional — leaving people feeling confused or, worse, manipulated. We’re changing all that with clear, approachable language and experiences that put our users first and help make personal finance refreshingly simple, human, and interesting.
As a qualified candidate, you have excellent design skills — you’re succinct, clear, engaging — and understand how content and design affects the usability of a product, app, landing page, and website. You enjoy a good challenge. You build cross-functional relationships and lead without direct authority. You’re curious about what’s driving the problem and comfortable with navigating ambiguity toward possible solutions.
This role is a new role for NerdWallet UK and will report to the Technical Lead, who has a background in User Experience. You’ll partner with Engineers, Commercial Managers, and other Content Strategists to enhance our experiences and be responsible for decisions that shape the future of NerdWallet.
Where you can make an impact:
- Influence and be involved in every aspect of product design and user experience, from discovery to fixing a comma right before launch
- Create clean concise product layouts that explain and justify your recommendations. Then, ensure consistency across all consumer touch points
- Create and implement experiences that balance user, business, and brand needs
- Proactively share and collaborate with the wider team to educate and ensure consistency — both in message and voice
- Carry out the NerdWallet mission by making financial terms, products, and services feel human and accessible with language that brings the brand to life
- Collaborate and build relationships; seek out opportunities to connect across the company and look for how to combine, align, and amplify efforts
- Maintain and evolve our voice and tone guidelines
You are someone who:
- Always thinks about user experiences and design. (How users use it, not us)
- Thrives in an environment of fast feedback loops and a mindset of rapid prototyping and iteration
- Understands the technical limitations behind designs and communicate your ideas to engineers
- Has experience building and shipping web and/or mobile products
Your experience:
We recognise not everyone will have all of these requirements. If you meet most of the criteria below and you’re excited about the opportunity and willing to learn, we’d love to hear from you.
- 2-3 years of experience as a UX/Designer or Graphic Designer
- The ability to think big and understand complex feature sets
- A knack for distilling complicated topics into language anyone can grasp
- A passion for great user experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience working with financial products or services
- A working knowledge of Figma
