We are seeking a full-stack software engineer to build the initial version of an externally-facing application to deliver Helio data insights to entrepreneurs. As a member of the Insights team, you will leverage Helio data and artifacts to build out a scalable data service layer, a web application backend, and a responsive front-end interface. The Insights application will display and visualize Helio insights to help entrepreneurs understand and tell the story of their company's performance. You will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally and hear feedback directly from entrepreneurs as we iterate on the product through user testing. Moving fast is necessary; breaking things is optional :) Our tech stack is Python/Django/MySQL on the backend (we’re starting to get some pretty amazing results with Machine Learning in Python as well) and Javascript/jQuery & SASS on the Frontend (we’re experimenting with AngularJS there).
Responsibilities:
- End-to-end ownership of new tools and applications built on top of our data platform, ensuring scalability, responsiveness, and usability of the front-end and back-end components
- Work closely with the Helio Platform team to build out scalable data services that efficiently and reliably deliver data to external customers through applications
- Work in a fast-paced Build-Test-Iterate cycle in order to quickly meet both technical and customer needs
- Design and implement tools to track and understand success metrics for new tools and applications
- Work cross functionally with key stakeholders in design, product, and business development to help decide & prioritize what to build
- Personally implement new features for the site, working full-stack, from the database, through the RESTful application layer, to CSS & Javascript in the browser
- Backend engineering: write elegant, well-tested, readable Python
- UI engineering: HTML/CSS, jQuery/Javascript, in-browser DOM programming
- Support site operations (DevOps for our EC2 production environment)
Requirements:
- 6+ years experience as a Software Engineer or similar role
- B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field
- Significant experience with our stack (React, Python 3, Spark, Pandas, Javascript, Django/Flask/FastAPI, Docker, AWS ecosystem) or comparable stack
- Strong communication skills collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, data and ML engineers, data scientists, business teams, and customers
- Excellent software engineering skills and strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, system design, and big data concepts
