About the role
Chime is seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Technology Officer “CTO”. Reporting to, and serving as a trusted advisor of, Chime’s Cofounder, the CTO will have the opportunity to help lead Chime through aggressive and expansive growth. This leader will be a key member of the senior leadership team and will be responsible for every aspect of engineering excellence. They will spearhead the rapid and sustainable development of a world-class engineering organization while continuing to drive innovation and enhance Chime’s user experience. . In order to advance Chime’s mission of “Uniting everyday people to unlock their financial progress”, this leader will own Chime’s entire engineering organization. They must have experience in building, scaling, and managing high-output, world-class engineering teams. The CTO will drive engineering strategy and roadmap, define business requirements, features, and functionality, set timelines, and lead the team through development and execution. This leader will be the voice of the engineering organization. They will serve as the glue between cross-functional partners to ensure the continued delivery of an exceptional, reliable, innovative user experience. This leader must collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical partners to deliver business outcomes. The successful candidate will be expected to work frequently in Chime’s San Francisco office.
The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $300,000 and up to $450,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits.
In this role, you can expect to
- Have responsibility for every aspect of engineering management including engineering, security, program management, and analytics
- Build and run a high-performing, best-in-class engineering organization in a fast-paced environment that is set up for scale
- Oversee all aspects of the Engineering organization, including technical strategy, technology blueprint, hiring and retaining talent, best practices & technology stacks
- Set the technical vision and build the technical product roadmap from launch to scale, including defining long-term goals and strategies
- Collectively with Product leader, drive build processes and cadence across development pods and scrum teams providing regular guidance on time, cost, and impact
- Governance and management of engineering organization, establishing performance norms, metrics, and defining best practices around software development, quality assurance, and reliability
- Define and implement a consistent and repeatable process for quality assurance across all areas of the organization and product build
- Lead and develop a robust engineering organization with team members of varying levels of seniority; manage and mentor individual team members, empowering them to progress in their careers, while also upleveling the organization as a whole
- Analyze and understand market trends and key business issues in order to make engineering decisions that balance consumer and business needs
To thrive in this role, you have
- Current Chief Technology Officer (or equivalent) experience at a publicly traded consumer technology or fintech company
- Managed engineering teams greater than 300 in size
- Proven success in product-driven organizations; ability to connect engineering excellence to deliver large-scale consumer products
- Led organizational development and growth of engineering functions; strong ability to identify, hire, and lead a world-class engineering team
- Built efficient, equitable, and inclusive engineering cultures that foster innovation, offer development opportunities, and value diversity
- An unwavering focus on building products and experiences that consumers love
- The ability to naturally gather inputs and ideas from a variety of sources both internal and external, and weigh them against business objectives to determine the appropriate business priority and strategy
- A passion for excellence with the ability to inspire others to the highest standards through leading by example
