Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all.
Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
We are seeking a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff (DMTS) to lead architecture analysis for AI, cloud and enterprise platforms. The analysis will run from the memory device level up to the rack and the data center. This role connects DRAM architecture, device organization, electrical, thermal and power behavior with system modeling and analysis. It turns that analysis into product and roadmap decisions for future DRAM, LPDDR, HBM, CXL, SSD and disaggregated memory solutions.
The succesful canddiate will analyze DRAM and LPDRAM componenet and circuit desings across multiple competitive parts and derive future looking direction for our architecture as well as design teams.
Key Responsibilities
Memory Technology & Device-to-System Analysis
- Build a deep understanding of DRAM architecture, device organization and layout effects across DDR4, DDR5, LPDDR5/5X/5T, HBM and emerging memory.
- Analyze each technology's electrical margins, signaling, thermal behavior, power and performance, and show how they affect performance at the system level.
- Compare memory generations, configurations and competing solutions to find performance, power, cost and architectural gaps.
- Quantify tradeoffs across: Cost per GB Power efficiency Latency Bandwidth Reliability Thermals Controller and platform complexity
Architecture Co-Optimization & Recommendations
- Drive optimization across the full stack: Applications and frameworks OS and runtime software Memory controllers and firmware Memory and storage subsystems Network fabrics
- Give architecture teams actionable recommendations on: Memory features Controller requirements Training flows Power management Reliability and RAS capabilities
- Advise on what to build internally to close gaps and improve competitiveness.
Technical Leadership & Influence
- Serve as a recognized technical authority and influence architecture decisions across multiple business units.
- Partner with architecture, firmware, validation, product engineering and business teams to define data requirements and agree on findings.
- Produce competitive assessments and executive-level recommendations.
- Define long-term modeling and simulation strategy, and mentor senior architects and engineers.
- Represent the company in standards bodies (e.g., JEDEC, CXL Consortium), ecosystem initiatives, academic collaborations and industry conferences.
AI-Enabled Engineering & Responsible AI Leadership
- Use Micron-approved AI tools to speed up architecture work: workload analysis, modeling, competitive assessment and technical documentation.
- Redesign modeling and analysis workflows so AI does the repetitive work, with clear human review points and escalation paths.
- Check AI-generated results (model outputs, data summaries, competitive insights) for accuracy, bias and relevance before they inform architecture or product decisions.
Required Qualifications
- PhD or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- 15+ years in memory or storage architecture, system architecture or performance engineering.
- Deep expertise in memory or storage systems, from device and electrical behavior up to system-level performance.
- Demonstrated ability to influence product direction through quantitative analysis.
- Strong record of patents, publications or industry technical leadership.
- Ability to turn complex analysis into clear recommendations for architecture and business stakeholders.
- Owns decisions where AI is part of the process, and applies responsible AI use and AI governance policies.
- Experience across both volatile and non-volatile memory, such as DRAM, HBM, NAND or SSD, and how they interact in the memory and storage hierarchy.
- Knowledge of DRAM device topology, channel/rank/bank behavior, timing, training, signaling and package-level effects.
- Hands-on experience applying AI/ML or GenAI to performance modeling, workload characterization, data analytics or engineering productivity.
- Experience with memory or SSD controller architecture, firmware, ECC and RAS, or thermal and power management.
- Experience working with product planning or business units to influence roadmaps.
- Build a complete, data-backed view of internal and competing memory technologies, from device to system.
- Establish modeling and simulation capability that business units use for roadmap decisions.
- Identify and rank the most important performance, power, cost and architecture gaps.
- Measurably influence future DRAM, HBM, CXL and memory-storage product definitions.
- Show measurable gains in the speed or quality of analysis by building AI into architecture and modeling workflows, and help others on the team adopt the same practices.
