The Investment Banking Division’s Healthcare team in San Francisco is seeking a Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Associate to join its West Coast platform. The M&A Associate will support the structuring and execution of a broad range of complex domestic and cross-border transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, spin-offs, joint ventures, asset swaps and defense assignments. The team advises a diverse group of innovative clients across a wide range of healthcare and life sciences sub-sectors, including biotechnology, medical technology, life sciences tools, diagnostics, specialty pharmaceuticals and technology-enabled healthcare. The successful candidate will work closely with both the M&A and healthcare coverage teams to deliver high-quality strategic advice to clients. You will play an integral role within a collaborative team of senior professionals, with the opportunity to go beyond the numbers, think creatively and contribute meaningfully to transaction execution and client engagement.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in investment banking as an Analyst and/or Associate, or an MBA, with a proven track record of working on executed M&A transactions
  • Strong financial statement analysis skills and expertise in valuation and financial modeling across transaction types
  • Exceptional work ethic, with a high level of motivation and commitment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as client and interpersonal skills
  • Sound commercial judgment and the ability to perform under pressure and manage tight deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA and/or CFA designation is a plus. Relevant degrees include Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics or related fields (or foreign equivalent)
  • Series licensing or must obtain

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $225,000 per year at the commencement of employment.  However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
