Commercial Counsel

Synapse is seeking a full-time, highly motivated Commercial Counsel to join our expanding legal team in our San Francisco, California office. Commercial counsel will have a broad range of responsibilities and will have the opportunity to collaborate with Synapse’s executive and management team. Commercial counsel will be responsible for supporting the go-to-market team in ensuring a smooth and efficient process for prospective customers. What You'll Be Doing

•  Provide legal guidance to the executive and management team, as well as other Synapse personnel and stakeholders, regarding a wide variety of topics surrounding Synapse’s contractual relationships
•  Lead the administration of our customer agreement, as well as the review, drafting and negotiation of a variety of types of agreements, including but not limited to service agreements, partnership agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and vendor agreements 
•  Support and partner with the go-to-market team in the negotiation of complex agreements 
• Interface with current and prospective customers and their counsel as needed.
• Assist with the building of scalable processes for the Commercial legal team
• Resolve issues that arise in commercial relationships, including but not limited to managing pre-litigation disputes
• Seek to continuously improve Synapse’s standard contracts and legal processes
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including privacy and data protection

What You Will Bring

•  J.D. degree with 4+ years of combined legal (commercial) experience 
•  Experience in both in an in-house legal department and a law firm preferred
• Active license to practice law in CA or ability to register in-house required
• Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial contracts and acting as a strong strategic partner to product and business teams
• Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to manage several simultaneous projects with deadlines
• Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment at a high-growth company
• Team player mindset, with a collaborative approach 
• Solution oriented, with strong business judgment
• Experience working in a financial technology company and partnering with business and product colleagues preferred
• Experience with SaaS agreements preferred
• Experience in data and privacy laws is a plus
