Clever is seeking a creative, collaborative, and experienced Principal Product Designer to help us create fantastic experiences that help schools succeed.

That’s where you come in: You craft beautiful and functional experiences in an enterprise context. You’re excited to apply your skills to a broad spectrum of challenges: from creating engaging experiences for middle-school teachers to helping technical users through complex data management workflows. You excel at defining the problem space, gathering insights from users, iterating quickly, crafting beautiful interfaces, and working with engineers to see your ideas implemented. You elevate the skills of the design team through education, mentoring, and by example. 

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Research the problems faced by school IT staff to discover opportunities for improving existing products and creating new experiences they truly love.
  • Understand the business strategy and articulate how proposed designs support business needs.
  • Collaborate with our product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to create solutions.
  • Design flows, prototypes, sketches, and high-fidelity visuals for your features and products.
  • Work closely with engineering to ensure a high-quality implementation of our design system.
  • Solicit feedback from your peers, including other designers and stakeholders on your product.
  • Champion a high bar for design excellence across Clever’s products and services.
  • Actively mentor junior designers and drive projects that address design team-level challenges. Mentor other designers and drive process and culture improvements at a team level.
  • Help develop the design strategy for Clever as a whole.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • You have 5+ years of professional experience as an in-house product designer.
  • You are strong in your craft: your portfolio showcases stellar work in user research, ideation, interaction design, visual design. 
  • You can build culture and process changes that elevate the skills of the design team as a whole.
  • You’re a flexible designer who spans the end-to-end design process — from outlining workflows on a whiteboard, sketching wireframes on paper, to putting together high fidelity prototypes.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and can present designs to and gather feedback from internal teams, executives, and external partners.
  • Prior experience designing for education is a plus.  
  • Experience with creating and launching 0-1 products is a plus.

For Colorado* based candidates - The range of our base salary cash compensation for this role for candidates living in Colorado is between $131,000 - $153,600, final offers are determined using multiple factors including experience and level of expertise. We offer a full robust benefits package and stock options. Because Clever’s base compensation is driven by location, our recruiters will be happy to discuss a salary range for other locations during the interview process.
